Vegan Friendly Eats: The Garden Hale

It’s no surprise that eating out as a vegan can sometimes be challenging. Not all restaurants have added vegan options to their menus, yet, so it was refreshing to discover The Garden in Hale, Cheshire. A very instagrammable, super healthy eatery that has more vegan options than most!

We visited on a Sunday afternoon and were lucky enough to snag a table tucked away in the corner. It was a beautifully sunny Manchester day so most people were sitting outside, The Garden has a cute decked area out back and seating out front too. Dogs are welcome so we took little Betsy along with us.

The interior is stunning and it’s obvious a lot of love has gone into this place. The specials menu is hand painted by a local artist and everything within is garden themed, think plants, flowers, light and freshness.

It took me an awfully long time to decide what to eat because there are just so many options for vegans. I eventually opted for the vegan cashew rarebit toast, sweet potato wedges and an oat milk cappuccino.

Our food arrived in good time and went down a storm with both myself and Betsy, who loves sweet potato wedges!

After lunch we moved to a table outside for another coffee, some pineapple infused water and a liver flush shot (beetroot, grapefruit, aloe vera & milk thistle). The vegan friendly cakes were so tempting but I was just too full to try one.

At least it gives me a reason to visit again soon for coffee and cake!

Vegan ‘Meat’ball Sub #WorldVeganDay

November 1, 2017 • By

Happy #WorldVeganDay to all the wonderful vegans, and future vegans, who visit this site!

To celebrate this kind and conscious lifestyle choice, I’ve created the Vegan Meatball Sub. Vegans love junk food too! It’s super quick and easy to make, plus it’s filled with guilt free melted cheese. What’s not to love?

Honestly, if you made this sandwich for your non-vegan friends they would be seriously impressed and you will have given them one meat free option to add to their list.

The ‘Meat’ball Sub

What you’ll need:

  • Sainsbury’s own brand vegan meatballs (here)
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Mushrooms
  • Tomato puree
  • Garlic
  • Vegan Spread
  • Vegan mozzarella: I use Violife because it melts well
  • Sub roll

What to do:

Step 1: Cook the meatballs for 15 – 20 minutes (as directed on the packaging)

Step 2: Chop mushrooms and tomatoes

Step 3: Add a little oil to a pan and heat the garlic, tomatoes and mushrooms. Adding a teaspoon of tomato puree towards the end.

Step 4: Slice the sub roll and toast the insides under the grill. This will stop the bread going too soggy.

Step 5: Add the meatballs to the bottom slice of bread, pouring the tomatoes and mushrooms over the top. Then add a few slices of vegan mozzarella and grill until cheese begins to melt. It helps to create a little support structure out of tinfoil as the sub gets a little top heavy under the grill and can spill everywhere (like my first attempt did, cheese explosion!)

Step 6: Drizzle with BBQ sauce and add the top layer of bread
