Finding the right style of yoga for you is so important if you’re really serious about changing your body, your mind and your life! I took my mum to her first ever yoga class a couple of years ago and, because I always practice the Ashtanga Vinyasa style, I took her along to one of my favourite classes with one of my favourite teachers. I was convinced she would love it just as much as I did. Turns out I was wrong. She hated it, she thought it was too physically demanding, didn’t give her enough time to get into postures, let alone progress in them. She never went back. She never tried another class, assuming all yoga was the same.
A few years later I persuaded her to take another class, this one taught by me. I created a vinyasa style sequence that I thought would suit her age, physical ability, keep her interested and still challenge her. She loved it! She said ‘that’s what yoga should be’, and she was right, yoga should be ideal for you.
The moral of the story, if you find your ideal style, you’ll probably go back.
